Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subject areas are important for students to study if they one day hope to serve on a U.S. Navy submarine. That was the message crew members from the USS Boise, a nuclear-powered, Los-Angeles class attack submarine, stationed out of Virginia, brought to students at four Boise elementary schools during a visit on Monday, October 17, 2016.
The crew visited Adams, Whittier, Hawthorne and Morley Nelson elementary schools. During the visit, students got an up-close look at a replica of the USS Boise thanks to a local U.S. Navy submarine veterans group that brought the model to each school.
The USS Boise crew visit was led by Commanding Officer Chris Osborn and included Senior Chief Jeffrey Skogen, Chief of the Boat; Lieutenant William Reade; Petty Officer Brandon Perkins; and Petty Officer Joshua Gonzales.
