Borah AVID: What is it?

AVID is a college preparatory program offered within the Boise School District in which secondary students become the facilitator of their own academic success. In short, AVID inspires, encourages and prepares students to succeed in college and beyond!

Borah AVID students:

· Work hard in college prep courses;

· Demonstrate individual determination;

· Have a desire to go to a four year college and are not trying to take “shortcuts” to get there;

· Have and show a curiosity to learn;

· Practice college level organization and note taking;

· Give back to their school and community;

· Build a supportive community of academically motivate peers;

· Research, visit, and apply to numerous in-state and out of state colleges;

· Drastically reduce their college expenses by taking college courses in high school and applying for and earning scholarship.

AVID Benefits

Borah AVID seniors are seeing additional program benefits via district scholarships, college application fee waivers, and SAT/ACT fee wavers.

Scholarships

Class of 2020: won two $12,000 Governor's Cup Scholarships, and three AVID District Scholarships: $2,500, $5,000, and $20,000.

Class of 2019: won two $5,000 Harad Scholarships, and one $20,000 Dell Scholarship, in addition to many other outside scholarships.

Class of 2018: won two $2,500 AVID Endowed Scholarships and one $20,000 Harad Scholarship, in addition to many other outside scholarships.

Class of 2017: won one $2500 AVID Endowed Scholarship and one $20,000 Harad Scholarship in addition to many other outside scholarships.

Class of 2016: won four $2500 AVID Endowed Scholarships and one $2500 Harad Scholarships in addition to many other outside scholarships.

Class of 2015: won five $2,500 and one $10,000 Harad Scholarships in addition to many other outside scholarships.

*The majority of students who participate in at least 3 years of the AVID program earn numerous scholarships and reduce their college costs significantly.

Earn College Credits in High School

AP Exams: Since 2010, district AVID students have taken 5,181 AP Exams, helping the earn cost saving college credits.

Senior AVID students earn 3 concurrent credits through Boise State.
